What made you decide to get married on this particular date?
“We decided to choose this date simply because it was a federal holiday and the majority of our guests were also active military. This meant that the majority of us had a 4 day weekend so our friends had Friday and Monday off work in order to travel to our wedding and also have time to spend with each other before and after the wedding.”
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning (if any - colors, features, etc.)?
“My theme for the wedding was neutral; I’m a very plain girly. I love black and white and classic themes. I got all of my inspo from Instagram and Pinterest.”
How did the two of you meet?
“We met at West Point ( United States Military Academy). He was a junior and I was a sophomore and we first met at a home football game because both our teams were sitting near each other in the bleachers.”
How did the proposal happen?
“Our proposal was a COMPLETE surprise for me. At the time Jeremiah was no longer at school in New York. He had started his officer training in Georgia. That weekend he had come to visit because I had my 100th night (the senior night signifying that I had 100 more nights at West Point). It was also the only formal event that I was finally able to wear my own dress instead of a uniform. The day before, he was driving me to my nail appointment and he started to play one of our favorite ‘memory’ songs for the time, ‘Broken Window Serenade’ by Whiskey Myers. This song was special, especially for this specific drive we had done so many times.
He took me to a park on the Hudson River that we had been to before, although I was insistent on not going because I was running late for my nail appointment and didn’t have much time after to get ready for our formal dinner. Not to mention it was February in New York, so it was freezing and there was snow everywhere. He took me to the gazebo and proposed there. I had absolutely no idea it was actually happening although I questioned it in my head at first, but then it was clear. I ugly cried and then said yes. :)”
Congratulations Lauren + Jeremiah!
