What made you decide to get married on this particular date?
“It was exactly 1 year and a day after we got engaged!!!!”
How did you know your gown was "the one"?
“When I put it on the first time I immediately knew it was one of my favorites, but I didn’t want to commit to it just yet because I thought a different dress I tried on was going to be the one. Then when I went back to put on my favorites when I put my dress on, I immediately teared up and that’s what I knew it would be my dress! All of that happened before I put the veil on with it and once the veil was on, it was game over!!”
How did the two of you meet?
“We met in 2016 when I was a sophomore in high school and Luke was a freshman!! We were at cross country practice and he saw me walk in with a bright purple hat on. He ended up asking his friend (who officiated our wedding!!!) who I was and the rest is history!!! My husband brought this up in his vows and it was the sweetest thing because I, of course, always asked when he first saw me and what was going through his head!!”
How did the proposal happen?
“He surprised me on our family vacation!! Luke pulled off the surprise of a lifetime! Luke told me he could not go on the family vacation, and I believed him. On our first day in Puerto Rico, Payton and Addyson (my sisters), Sarah (my aunt) and my grandparents kept me busy all day while Luke traveled to pop the question. That night, I thought we were taking family pictures, so we all went down to the beach, where I still had no idea what would happen! When we got there, I said, "This would be a crazy spot for a proposal," and as I turned the corner, THERE LUKE WAS! It was so surreal!”
What was one of your favorite moments from your wedding day?
“One of my favorite moments from our wedding day was at our reception. Our wedding party had gotten up to get food and my husband and I were waiting for the Wedding Coordinator to bring us our plates so we didn’t have to get up so we sat at our head table by ourselves and just got to soak everything in looking out and seeing the faces of everyone we loved and then looking at each other and just saying “holy crap I can’t believe we’re married!!”
Another one of my favorite moments to see was after we walked back down the aisle and were officially married and our wedding party all came in sobbing. Luke grabbed my brother and gave him a big hug and my two sisters and said “you are my sisters now!!” And it was truly the sweetest moment and everyone continued to sob!”
What advice would you give to other brides in regards to dress shopping?
“Go with your gut!!! Don’t second guess yourself because you will always be able to “find another dress” but it might not be the RIGHT dress! However, don't put so much pressure on yourself to find a dress at your first appointment. I scheduled other appointments to take that pressure off and then you can always cancel them if you end up finding them at the first appointment (which is what happened to me!!)”
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning (if any - colors, features, etc.)?
“When we were planning we wanted to make sure we were staying true to ourselves with our choices. It is so easy to get caught up in all the options with different vendors, but when it came down to it we wanted to make sure the choices we were making were choices we would make on any other day! That’s how we ended up with a taco bar at our wedding.
As far as colors and vibe goes, I wanted it to feel like us! I wanted it to be fun and bright and full of love!! I think we captured that perfectly with all the bright florals and mixed match dresses!”
Congratulations Mr. + Mrs. Winkler!
We’ve loved watching your love story unfold and are wishing you so much happiness in your next chapter together. Cheers to a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments, Haylee and Luke!
